Match Report

Today saw the boys trying to put last weeks defeat behind them in their first ever meeting with Penwortham St Teresa’s.

Cadley started well dominating most of the play and putting PST under pressure from the very first whistle.  Rhys and Will were running the centre of midfield and Ty was proving to be a good target man playing as a sole forward.  Despite this pressure the first clear chance of the game came to PST who broke through Cadley’s back line and Harry made a great save from the advancing forward.  This didn’t change the pattern of the game and Cadley continued to have most of the play but determined defending by PST restricted the boys to only half chances.  Cadley’s best chance of the half came from a flowing move down the left wing involving Lewis G and Ty and when the ball was crossed in Lewis C was free at the back post and only a last gasp tackle and then a superb save from Rhys’ follow up shot prevented Cadley from opening their account.  Cadley came close again when some sharp passing between Luke and Jack opened up the PST midfield and a long range shot from Rhys clipped the top of the bar.  The boys continued to push forward as the half came to a close and although they were able to force a couple of corners they weren’t able to test the PST keeper.  (HT 0-0)

In the second half the pattern of play remained the same with Cadley doing most of the attacking, PST defending well but looking a threat on the break.  The first chance of the half came from another passing move between Jack and Rhys who between them played a nice one two before Rhys’ shot brought a good save from the keeper.   PST were most dangerous from their own goal kicks as their keeper was able to launch the ball deep into Cadley’s half and Harry was called on to make a couple of interceptions to avert the danger.  In open play Jimmy and either Lewis G or Luke were on top of the PST attackers and very few chances were created.  With this defensive foundation Cadley pushed forward looking for the winning goal.  Jack had a couple of long range efforts that brought saves from the keeper, Will was denied by a last ditch challenge and Luke had two long range efforts with one hitting the bar and the other having the keeper scampering to his left to push round the post.  As it turned out it wasn’t to be Cadleys day and they weren’t able to get the goal they probably deserved and although they continued to push the referee brought proceedings to a close with the game goalless. (FT 0-0)

Post Match Press Conference:

Paul and Scott said to the gathered media “We saw a team of winners out there today.  The boy’s reaction to last weeks defeat has been superb and each and everyone of them put a shift in today.  PST defended well and were dangerous on the break so we give them credit for that but overall we were the team who looked most likely to score and on another day would have come away from this difficult game with a win”   MOM - Harry
