Cadley v Walton Le Dale – Home – 7th February 2010 – 12.30KO

Under 10s Premier League

After another week off from football, the boys were refreshed and eager to play.  The weather was damp and cold with a slight touch of rain in the air.

Cadley showed they were up for it as soon as the whistle blew.  It saw them attack the WLD defence from the word go.  A long shot by Burrows saw the ball fly into the back of the net, a great strike and a great start.  1-0.  This spurred Cadley on as the attacking show of football was fantastic seeing Sumner have a great chance only to be stopped by the WLD keeper.  Another long shot chance by Linney saw the ball into the net again.  2-0  Cadley were showing off the skill that we all knew they had that we just hadn’t seen in recent games.  A run by Smith nearly grabbed the third as the WLD keeper pulled out the stops to tip it over the crossbar.  Great save!  It then went down the other end to see an equally good save by Baron as WLD put a bit of pressure on Cadley, showing them that the game was far from over.  Then another Cadley defender another goal – DiNiro with a great shot 3-0.  The whistle blew for half time and what a half to watch.  Great football by both teams making for an exciting second half to come.

I hadn’t even got into my position for the second half before the next goal went in for Cadley.  Having to ask around to see who scored.  Burrows with his brace. 4-0!  This was turning out to be a great game of football for Cadley.  The scoreline matching the skill that was being shown by all the team.  Another attack saw Tierney knock the ball into the net 5-0 and a confidence boost for Tierney who in recent games has been so unlucky.  A silky smooth run on the wing by Sumner saw the WLD keeper again make a great save.  More pressure amounted as WLD showed they weren’t for giving up just yet.  But another chance for Cadley saw Tyrer’s head in the right place and the ball in the net.  6-0.  Some text book play by O’Flaherty and Munnelly saw the ball just go slightly wide – unlucky.  A good save by Baron saw the ball out for a WLD corner in the last few minutes of the game.  The ball went down the other end and a sneaky pass saw the ball to the feet of Tierney who also knocked in his brace.  7-0.  Final whistle and a cheer from the Cadley lads.

After delving into the archives the last time the boys saw such a scoreline was back in the Under 8s League against Leyland Albion Blue one cold December morning 2007.  A major boost to the confidence and a great show of teamplay.  Well done the best football skill seen for a while.  Commiserations to the WLD keeper who despite the scoreline had a great game!

My MOTM – Burrows – kept going like a Trojan, never gave up.
