Cadley v Red Rose – Home – 7th March 2010 – 12.30KO
Under 10s Premier League
As always the atmosphere is a tense one against Red Rose, the last meeting way back in September saw Red Rose beat Cadley 4-2. This game was always going to be a good one.
The sun was shining bright; it was lovely weather, for a change!
The whistle blew and without having chance to get my pen to paper, Red Rose took advantage of an unready defence and knocked the ball into the net. 0-1 and not what the Cadley boys had wanted at all. The ball was replaced on the centre spot and the whistle blew. Amazingly a carbon copy of the kick off occurred and the ball saw the back of the net again, unfortunately off a Cadley boot. 0-2. Disastrous first few minutes, the boys needed to regroup and think positively. This is exactly what they did as DiNiro took it all the way down the pitch to see Rose’s keeper make a great save. More chances were executed by Cadley as the boys were determined to keep Red Rose on their toes. The teamplay and commitment from the boys was second to none with the scoreline not actually reflecting the actual game. Half time and after an unfortunate start for Cadley, the determination was fantastic.
Second half and a positive start for Cadley as a great shot by Linney saw the ball hit the keepers hands out for a rebound and a well placed O’Flaherty saw the ball in the back of the net 1-2. This is the kind of start Cadley had hoped for. The spirit and positive play by Cadley was just amazing. Red Rose were under some pressure as Cadley pushed forward pressurising the defence. Cadley had many chances, either saved by a confident keeper or unbelievably missed. The ooh’s and aah’s from the sidelines reflected the unluckiness Cadley were undergoing, the ball just didn’t want to go in the net! Then up popped Linney after a schmozzle in the box and in the net it went 2-2 and a deserved overdue goal. Red Rose saw the chance to pressure a tiring Cadley within the last few minutes, seeing a few corners, tense times for the spectators. The whistle blew and a sigh of relief for Cadley.
2-2 final score. An exciting game for anyone to watch. Well done to both teams. Reminds you of what the boys do train for when you watch games like that!
My MOTM – DiNiro – great defending! |
